Reading your energy usage

Digital type

Look at the digits from left to right, exclude the red digit.

Subtract the old meter reading away from the new.

This will be the amount of units you have used.

Tarrifs that use different times to bill you usually have a low and normal rate sometimes on electronic meters this is rate 1 and 2.

Low or rate 2 is normally for off peak monitoring.

This meter would read – 94694 notice the 5 has been dropped, only whole Kilowatt hours or units are needed

Analogue Dial Meter

This meter is not an exact science and fortunatly not around much anymore.

As per usual the red dial can be ignored as it is tenths only.

If the needle is inbetween numbers then read the lower number,.

If the needle is perfectly on a number, mark it down and underscore it.

If any of the figures that you have underscored are followed by a 9,

Then minus one away from the number that you have underlined.

The reading on this example is 94694

Electronic LCD Electric Meter.

Most electronic meters are very easy to read and most utility meters do not put any decimal places on the meter.

If there is any numbers to the right of the decimal place ignore them they are tenths of a kilowatt and not needed for your reading.

read any numbers to the left of the decimal place if it has one .

This meter below has none and is just read as is so reading would be 46 units.
